Mercy Center Auburn Retreat 2023
What a delightful time!

The first annual “Winter Mercy Center Auburn Retreat” has concluded and a great time was had by all 16 attendees! It was the perfect week to sew indoors as outdoor temperatures were freezing! Cordelia Min organized the troops and was helped by Barbie Robertson and Christine Canelo. In addition to the cozy accommodations and great food, Barbie Robertson organized a contest where attendees were invited to make a quilt block prescribed by “cards” from a “Quilt Builder Card Deck” using any scraps and one uniform background fabric. Each block completed earned a “ticket” for drawing to win a basket of fabric. All submitted blocks will be used by Barbie Robertson to make two quilts to donate to Mercy Center Auburn next year. Christine Canelo won the drawing and chose the fat quarter bundle prize and Martha Hess not only made the most quilt blocks (14) but she also won the basket of fabric. Photos below include winner Martha Hess standing in front of submitted blocks and behind her prize, quilt made by Barbie Robertson from blocks submitted by attendees last June, a “view of the retreat and “picnic quilt” made by Cordelia Min. When one walks around the room at retreat, one hears folks making such comments as, “I just love this place; I wish I could stay longer” and “I enjoy not having to cook or do other household chores and simply sew all day” All guild members attending were grateful for the opportunity to get away from everyday life and live in their “zone” for a few days. Many will be returning for a long weekend in June, 2023.
