Mercy Center Auburn

The guild hosts two retreats a year at the Mercy Center in Auburn, one in the Winter and one in June. Our first retreat was in June 2012 hosting our pilot group of 12 quilters and we’ve returned every year except 2020, when no one went anywhere. The June retreat quickly grew to our current size of 20 and remains our fabulously fun, full of shenanigan retreat. It is held the 2
nd or 3rd weekend in June depending on center availability – most often on Father’s Day weekend. We arrive on Thursday afternoon and leave by noon on Sunday.

We added a 2nd retreat in January 2023, with a pilot group of 16 (now the center’s minimum to use the “quilt room”). This is a no-frills retreat, just friendship and happiness! The Winter retreat is held end of January or beginning of February based on availability. It is held during the week, arriving Monday afternoon and leaving on Thursday.

Both retreats include 3 meals a day (plus the center’s amazing cookies!) and 24/7 access to the quilting room. Rooms are single-occupancy with shared bathrooms in the hallway (rooms do have a sink & mirror).

The first year we went, the center humbly asked if we could donate a couple of quilts. Boy did we overwhelm them with bounty! Now all the beds have quilt toppers (most made by our group), they have been gifted to some to special visitors, and bring comfort to nuns entering the infirmary wing.

Zephyr

The Golden Valley Quilt Guild has held an annual retreat at
ZEPHYR POINT Presbyterian Conference Center since the summer of 2008. Owned and operated by the Presbyterian Church, the center is situated on the shores of Lake Tahoe, it’s a wonderful place to get away and relax.

Our retreats are without teachers (although there are plenty of quilters willing to share their knowledge if you have a problem). Everyone brings their own projects to work on. It is amazing how much you can accomplish while here.

We have plenty of laughter and a chance to get to know our fellow guild members better and make new friends. Imagine a room full of sewing machines and happy quilters. Doors are locked at night so we can leave all our machines set up.

There’s a cafeteria with excellent food and an awesome dining room with spectacular views of the lake.  The retreat wouldn't be complete without a visit to a few quilt shops.
